Our Namesake
Captain Carl Falkenberg
Our hotel carries the name of one of Botwood's own, a First World War flying ace and one of Canada's most accomplished combat pilots.

Falkenberg Suites is named in honour of Captain Carl Falkenberg, a First World War flying ace from Botwood. Over the course of the war he was credited with 17 aerial victories, a record that placed him among the most successful Canadian pilots to fly in the conflict.
He was one of only nine Canadian pilots ever to be awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross twice. Together with the Air Force Cross he also received, those honours mark him as one of Canada's most decorated combat aviators, a remarkable distinction for a young man from a small town on the Bay of Exploits.
Naming the hotel after him keeps that local history close at hand. Guests staying with us are a short drive from the community that shaped him, and from the coast he grew up on.
